Summary by Zhang Zecheng 张泽城 (student, SZU)(sound group)
Actually, I knew little about the workshop before I joined our ‘Remake – We make workshop. I have not participated in this kind of activity before, nor experienced this process of attentively working together. I found that this workshop was quite meaningful for me, as it made me think about the relationship between the architecture and social activities. What we are doing is helping people realize the value and the importance of their work, and then they can be proud of themselves. We were also presenting the unknown work and life of the workers in the factory to other people. This calls attention to society and leads society to concern itself with every part of our life. In fact, as an architecture student, I enjoy the process of working for them.
In detail, the process is closely related to architecture, definitely. When we finished our installation and went to the Biennale site again, the columns, the sounds, the movies and the pictures recalled the scene of the factory we have collaborated with, and formed a real space for people to enjoy. It also reminds me of Carlo Scarpa, who considered that every part of the space has influenced the space itself. So what we are doing is to create space for people to enjoy, though architecture is not always relating to houses, I think. I’m grateful to everybody here for having a good time together and I learnt a lot of things which I can’t learn at school. I enjoyed it!
